hang out with musicians

Hello Leo,

This email comes totally out of the blue. But you might feel left out if you never heard about this from me.

For the past two years I’ve been helping my musician friends “make it”—creating ways for us to work together and build communities of support.

The whole project is called hang out with musicians (or howm [ hōm ]). Most relevant to you would be the podcast. Hang out with musicians podcast, or as we call it howmcast—where Megan Simper and I spend good quality, intentional time with our musician friends so that you can enjoy them too!

“Once I had a taste of collaboration, I just couldn’t go back. Because it just always ends up being better when someone else is also involved.”
Kyle Wesley from Ep.9 of the podcast

The Vision of Hang Out With Musicians

My hope for howm lies in the new ways musicians can connect with and be supported by the ones who love their music. I see a beautifully reciprocal relationship that brings joy to everyone within.

Three Steps For You To Get The Most Joy Out Of Music Today:

  1. Hear a musician whose music and person sparks joy in you.

  2. Go find how to support them. Patreon has become a very popular place for this.

  3. Enjoy moving into a participatory joy of patronage.

You can learn more:

  • On our website I wrote an article called “joy of patronage” to walk through why I believe patronage is so good.

  • Our website howmbase.com is the simplest way to find how to support the musicians I care about.

  • Finally, my Patreon page explains more about what I’m doing to help my broke musician friends and is a great way to support me if you have caught my vision.

Leo! How are you and Betsy? I might be visiting Eli soon in Chicago. I'd love to see you guys sometime too.

Cheers,
Ben Brown
